Avantis Estate is located on the island of Evia, just northeast of Athens, and is recognised for its pioneering role in modern Greek viticulture. The estate, founded by Apostolos Mountrichas, focuses on sustainable farming and precision winemaking. Harmony Red is typically a blend of Syrah and indigenous varieties such as Mavrotragano or Vradiano, cultivated in the mineral-rich, volcanic soils of central Evia. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by maturation in a blend of French oak barrels, where the oak influence is used to enhance structure and complexity without masking the varietal character. The result is a wine that exhibits poise, depth, and a distinct regional identity.
Deep garnet in colour, Harmony Red opens with lifted aromas of black cherry, plum, and wild herbs, layered with notes of cracked pepper, cocoa, and a touch of cedar from oak ageing. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with smooth tannins and balanced acidity. Dark berry fruit is framed by savoury spice, subtle earthy tones, and a mineral edge. The finish is long and refined, marked by a gentle smokiness and persistent freshness.
Harmony Red pairs beautifully with grilled meats, lamb with Mediterranean herbs, and dishes featuring roasted root vegetables or rich tomato-based sauces. Its structure and spice profile also complement chargrilled aubergine, game, and mature cheeses, making it a versatile companion to both traditional Greek cuisine and broader Mediterranean fare.
