BORN IN VENEZUELA
Every drop of Diplomático originates in Venezuela, a tropical country nestled between the Andes Mountains and the Caribbean Sea. Known for its rainy and dry seasons, the climate also maintains consistently high humidity – ideal for growing sugar cane and accelerating the ageing process.
FINISHED IN PANAMA
To support the brand’s expansion, an additional ageing, blending and bottling facility has been established in Panama – a location that closely mirrors Venezuela’s tropical conditions. It is here that all Diplomático rums are matured, carefully blended and bottled before being shipped across the world.
THE AGEING PROCESS
All Diplomático rums are aged in oak casks, primarily ex-bourbon and ex-whisky barrels, to develop their desired flavour profile. Different woods and cask types impart distinct flavours and aromas, from sweet vanilla to deeper cereal notes. Once each rum reaches its optimum maturity, it is blended with other rums in varying proportions to create a specific Diplomático profile. One of the key skills in blending lies in understanding exactly how each barrel of rum is ageing, and ensuring it consistently meets Diplomático’s high-quality standards.
EXTRA OAK FINISHING
Some expressions feature rums that undergo additional ageing or finishing in various sherry casks, such as Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso and Amontillado. Depending on the type of cask used, this enhances and elevates the aroma and flavour, often adding notes of dried fruits and nuts.
RESERVA EXCLUSIVA: THE SIGNATURE CLASSIC
Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is a multi-award-winning rum and one of the world’s most popular super-premium sipping rums, celebrated for its signature smoothness and remarkable balance. It is created by marrying rums of varying ages and flavour profiles, including exclusive 12-year-old reserves, to achieve its unique character. With a distinctive body and excellent balance, it has become a global reference for discerning spirits enthusiasts. Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is blended with some of the brand’s most robust heavy rums for a bold and complex flavour. PLANAS: AGED WHITE RUM
An elegant aged white rum with a surprisingly fresh and smooth profile. A favourite among mixologists looking to enhance the complexity, quality and flavour of classic rum cocktails. Diplomático Planas is expertly blended from reserves of lighter aged rums to achieve a sharper, fruitier profile. These complex aged rums are carefully charcoal filtered to retain depth of flavour while achieving a crystal-clear appearance. Primarily aged in ex-bourbon and ex-whisky barrels, it delivers a crisp and fruity character, with sweet buttery notes of caramel and light toffee, lifted by a refreshing hint of spice.
