Tiraki, meaning ‘clearing of the sky’ in Māori, embodies a rich legacy rooted in Ngāi Tahu Māori heritage and the breathtaking Marlborough region of New Zealand. The Hammond family farm, with a proud history spanning five generations has always been a cornerstone of our identity. Founded by the three Hammond siblings and a friend with a deep connection to the land, Tiraki was born from a lifelong passion for nature, adventure, and the spirit of whānau (family). Their vineyards, nestled in the Wairau Valley, benefit from the unique climate created by the protective mountain ranges, offering the perfect conditions for low-intervention wines. A defining event for Tiraki was their achievement as the first wine brand in New Zealand to attain B Corp certification, underscoring their dedication to social and environmental responsibility. Tiraki’s commitment to sustainability includes native plantings along waterways and transitioning to organic farming methods.

The grapes come from the Longfield Farm hill block, planted on clay soils. Hand picked and whole bunch pressed. The juice was lightly settled overnight and then transferred to a mixture of french oak barriques and puncheons for fermentation, 20% of which were new. The wine underwent natural malolactic fermentation in the spring and was racked to tank in February prior to bottling in March.

A complex and concentrated chardonnay, this wine has a citrus core with notes of lemon curd and lime complemented with riper fruit notes of nectarine and peach. Layered with hints of toasted oak, vanilla and roasted nuts, the wine has a natural fruit breadth which balances the acidity and gives a long pure finish.
