Witchmark Distillery: Forging a New Legacy for English Spirits

On the historic Fonthill Estate in Wiltshire, surrounded by rolling chalk downlands and centuries-old farmland, Witchmark Distillery is establishing a bold new standard for English spirits. Set within a restored Grade II-listed barn, Witchmark fuses traditional distilling methods with a forward-thinking, sustainability-first approach. While their first single malt whisky is set to launch in 2027, Witchmark has already made a serious impression; award-winning white spirits, a leading B Corp score, and one of the most progressive sustainability programmes in the spirits industry.

A CONFIDENT NEW CHAPTER IN ENGLISH WHISKY

English whisky has come into its own. With more than 60 distilleries now producing whisky across the country, the category is flourishing, with producers crafting distinctive, high-quality spirits that are turning heads both at home and abroad.

Among this new wave, Witchmark stands out as one of the largest English whisky distilleries to emerge in recent years. Though a relative newcomer, the scale of investment and ambition behind Witchmark places it in a unique position to contribute meaningfully to the category’s growth, alongside the many respected English producers already bottling exceptional whiskies.

With barley grown just metres from the still house, water drawn from natural chalk aquifers, and a distilling process rooted in traceability and sustainability, Witchmark’s approach to single-origin whisky sets the stage for something distinct. The first release in Autumn 2027 will be a confident statement crafted with care, shaped by Wiltshire’s landscape, and informed by the distillery’s commitment to doing things the right way from the very beginning.

ENGLAND'S HIGHEST B CORP-SCORING DISTILLERY

Witchmark is proud to be the highest B Corp-scoring distillery in England, with an exceptional score of 124.4. This is more than a certification; it’s a framework for how they operate, from energy use and sourcing to staff wellbeing and environmental accountability.

Sustainability is engineered into the distillery:
• Heat recovery systems capture and reuse energy from distillation.
• Any effluent created is taken to a local biodigester and converted into biofuel for reuse.
• Power comes from Bio-LPG, a renewable, lower-emission alternative to traditional fuels.
• Minimal, recyclable packaging is sourced from local partners.
• A local, transparent supply chain keeps the footprint low and the quality high.

This isn’t about checking boxes—it’s about building a distillery fit for the future.

STONE. SOIL. SPIRIT.

At the heart of Witchmark’s philosophy lies a powerful trilogy: Stone. Soil. Spirit. These three elements define the brand’s identity and guide every decision, from field to bottle.

Stone - Witchmark takes its name from the protective “witch marks” carved into the stone walls of its historic barn, symbols once believed to ward off evil spirits. That same stone filters the spring water used in every spirit, naturally clarifying it and tying the process back to the land.

Soil - Just metres from the distillery, barley is grown using regenerative farming practices. This method enhances soil health, supports biodiversity, and strengthens the connection between agriculture and flavour. It’s better for the land, and better for the spirits.

Spirit - In a unique sustainable twist, Witchmark reuses the heads from its whisky distillation (often discarded elsewhere) and redistills them to craft its acclaimed white spirits. This approach minimises waste and brings extra complexity to its vodka and gin range.

AWARD-WINNING WHITE SPIRITS

While their whisky matures, Witchmark’s white spirits have already achieved international acclaim, including Gold Medals at the IWSC, World Drinks Awards, and The Gin Masters. Each expression reflects the distillery’s dedication to precision, sustainability and exceptional flavour.

Witchmark Single Origin English Vodka - Small-batch releases of just 1,000 bottles, distilled from estate-grown barley and spring water. Rich, creamy, and elegant, it showcases vodka at its purest.

Witchmark Wiltshire Single Origin English Gin - Inspired by the local landscape, this floral-forward gin includes lavender, jasmine, orange blossom and sloe, supported by ginger and bright citrus.

Witchmark Black Lime Single Origin English Gin - Smoky, zesty and complex, this adventurous gin blends black lime, Szechuan pepper, elderberry and warming spice into a dynamic spirit perfect for bold serves.

Witchmark London Dry Single Origin English Gin - A contemporary take on a classic. Juniper, orange zest, cinnamon, cubeb and bay leaf come together in a balanced, aromatic profile ideal for timeless cocktails.

Each of these spirits benefits from the whisky-making process itself, an elegant example of Witchmark’s zero-waste approach in action.
